Civil Court today refused to accept the payment by former Thimarafushi constituency MP Mohamed Musthafa as per the ruling of the Supreme Court.
Campaign Agent of Musthafa, Abdulla Jameel revealed that the civil court had refused to accept the payment by stating that the former MP had no debt.
He further said that Musthafa was currently in discussions with the registrar of the civil court in relation to the matter.
Supreme Court had declared that Musthafa was personally liable to the loan taken from the Bank of Credit and Commerce International.
The Court had further disqualified Musthafa from his MP’s post after it was adjudged that Musthafa had a decreed debt which was not being paid.
After the ruling Musthafa claimed that the verdict had been politically influenced and would contest for the seat after clearing his debt payable to the Maldives Monetary Authority.
However, it is yet to be determined why Musthafa has decided to pay his dues to the Civil Court instead of the MMA.
